Down Time with Tony Hayward

There is nothing worse than being forced to rest against your will.  It is one thing to take a few weeks off and enjoy a nice restful vacation, it is another to take time off sitting with your ass planted on the couch.  Especially in June.  What makes it even worse is that this is a planned physical down time, so to speak, and I chose June thinking that the weather would be lovely and I would have my ass firmly planted outside on a lounge.  In the sun. Resting.  In the sun.  Not in the house.  On the couch.

I have the prerequisite stack of books and movies and the channel switcher is getting a good workout.  I have watched my share of World Cup soccer and dislike the Vuvuzelas as much as the next person.  I stayed up late only to watch the Celtics disappoint in game 7 and I took the opportunity to watch the Senate Subcommittee question BP CEO Tony Hayward.

I guess I was hoping for more.  And perhaps less.  More from Tony and less from the politicians.  Frustrating to say the least.  How many times does each Senator or Representative have to repeat the same angry diatribe to this guy?  I mean c'mon, we know each of you is representing a bunch of angry voters, that isn't going to clean up the oil.  Over and over again we got to hear how angry each of them were.

And then they finally got down to asking Mr.Hayward some questions.  Mr.Hayward who had decided to appear alone in front of the subcommittee.  No legal representation.  He did bring a technical expert to consult with, however he never felt the need to consult with the man and I can only recall one member asking him to do so.  Apparently the expert was not an expert on that particular question.  That topic.  Whatever.  Mostly Mr.Hayward wasn't an expert either because he chose not to answer the questions saying either "I don't recall" or "I have no prior knowledge".  Which of course made all the committee members frustrated and probably the viewers even more so.  Because honestly some of the questions were repeated over and over again to the point of making me want to scream.

At least I can change the channel if I decide not to watch this.  I was reminded of the summer of the Watergate hearings.  We only received three TV stations back then and if it rained that summer and we were stuck inside that was all that was on the tube. But I think they asked way better questions back then.
